Professor Paul Gately

 

Founder and driver of MoreLife, Paul has an unshakable passion to support those who struggle with their weight, to better their own lives by making small, achievable changes.

Paul’s mission is to raise awareness and inspire action that tackles the global problem of obesity, especially childhood obesity. He has presented a number of television programmes to help increase public awareness on the subject and is a regular contributor on radio, television and commenter in the printed media.

Professor Fiona McQueen 

Scotland’s Chief Nursing Officer. The Chief Nursing Officer’s primary role is to provide professional leadership for the nursing, midwifery and allied health professions.

Professor McQueen has led by example by taking positive steps to achieve a healthy weight herself. Acknowledging that existing guidance can be confusing, Professor McQueen suggest that experts have a role to play in helping the public navigate complex and sometimes contradictory advice.

Dr Laura Stewart PhD, BSc, BA(HONS), RD

Laura works for NHS Tayside as the Nutrition & Dietetic Service Lead for Weight Management and Diabetes, managing a weight management service for children and adults.

 

She is a past chair of the British Dietetic Association's specialist group Dietitians in Obesity Management UK (DOM UK) and, in 2014 she was a member of an Expert Working Group which was set up to advise the Scottish Government on childhood obesity.  In 2015 she co-edited the practical handbook Early Years Nutrition and Healthy Weight.

Joyce Thompson, BSc, MPH, RD


Joyce works for NHS Tayside as a Dietetic Consultant in Public Health Nutrition and is responsible for leading a coordinated and cost effective approach to nutrition in relation to health improvement and clinical care in partnership with the NHS and various agencies. Joyce co-founded and was the first chair of the British Dietetic Association's specialist group Dietitians in Obesity Management UK (DOM UK).  She also chaired the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network (SIGN) working group on obesity for SIGN 15 (2010).  In 2015 she co-edited the practical handbook Early Years Nutrition and Healthy Weight.

Dr Drew Walker

Drew Walker has been Director of Public Health in Tayside since 2000. He has a long-standing interest in physical activity, both professionally and personally as a ‘fanatical’ cyclist. He led the development of a recently published Healthy Weight Strategy, a major component of which addresses sedentary behaviour and lack of physical activity. He oversees NHS input to a Best Value Review on physical activity commissioned by NHS Tayside’s Health Improvement Committee -  the review is a collaboration between the NHS, local authorities, local academic departments and others, which encourages coordinated health improvement activity.
